This past Saturday, MHS Varsity Cheer competed at the State Competition in Hot Springs! This team has been preparing for this for months and have literally left blood, sweat, and tears in our gym at home! We have 17 on our competition team, most are multi-sport athletes and active in other clubs and have balanced that and their coursework with a strength that I admire! Saturday they hit that state mat with grit and determination and it was beautiful to watch! They executed their 2.5 minute, 3 part routine flawlessly, worked as a team, led and engaged the crowd, gave it their all- as they finished I was in tears because I saw what we have worked hours and hours for happen just as it should! As the rest of the 17 teams in our division finished their qualifying round, I told our team, no matter what- they were GREAT, but I had a good feeling about making it into the Finals! The announcer started naming the top 5 teams that were moving on to compete in the finals round- when he announced our name it was pure joy and a moment I know we will each remember forever! Our team went back out and performed their 4 part finals routine and again left it all on the mat! We fell short of the top 2 spots, but we received a bid to compete at Nationals! As a coach, I can't really put into words just how proud I am of these athletes! We definitely left Hot Springs with our heads held high, feeling #dragonstrong with a goal we had set- achieved! We want to thank everyone for your support! The team was especially thankful for our Superintendent, Dr. Reeves, for making the trip down to watch us and the pep talk before they competed! We also want to thank Time Striping for making our beautiful new signs and the Dragon Athletics Booster Club and cheer parents for the goodie bags for the trip! This team made sure everyone knew they really should "Fear the Flame"! Go Dragons!
